Spring Foraging with Sam Thayer & Wild Food Girl – May 5 & 6 – CLASS IS FULL
Yes, you read that right! Renowned foraging author Samuel Thayer is coming to Colorado’s Front Range to teach a weekend-long workshop with yours truly. This will be a 2-day class, with an optional overnight, exploring edible shoots, greens, roots and/or mushrooms in a variety of habitats—from a tree-lined, riparian creek to semi-desert foothills, as well as disturbed, weedy areas, like fields and irrigation ditches, that host plants you might find in our local urban areas.
- LOCATION: A 126-acre retreat/ranch in Loveland, CO, with camping and (limited) lodging available to participants
- DATES/TIMES: Saturday, May 5 (9 am – 8 pm) & Sunday, May 6 (7 am – 3 pm)
- COST: $270/person; $330 with lodging in the farmhouse
CLASS DETAILS: We will spend about 50% of our time in the field learning edible wild plants–including field identification, safe and sustainable foraging practices, what parts to use, and lots of hands-on foraging practice. About 30% of our time will be spent at the farmhouse, cleaning and preparing the wild food we gather, and we’ll incorporate the foraged food into our meals. This is an opportunity to practice working with wild food in the kitchen, but we will not be eating an exclusively wild food diet. The remainder of our time is dedicated to class discussions and a Saturday night presentation about Colorado wild edibles. Class size is limited to 12 participants to ensure a good student/ teacher ratio and personalized experience. Camping is available, so you can spend the night or drive in each day. There are also four (4) rooms in the historic farmhouse, each with a queen bed.
UPDATE 3/6/18: Hi everyone, thanks so much for your interest in this class. It is now full, so I have disabled the interest form and replaced it with a Colorado foraging email list sign-up form. If you would like to be alerted about other upcoming Colorado foraging classes, please join the list by filling out the form below. I will email as new workshops/classes become available, or if spots free up in this one. Thanks so much! –Erica (WFG)
