Asparagus Hunt & Prairie

Are you ready for the asparagus hunt?! This 6-hour class takes place in the high plains an hour east of Colorado Springs, where we will learn edible spring plants in the prairie, both native and non-native, and hunt wild asparagus together. This is a very special place where a friend of mine has been working to protect prairie properties, so we look forward to sharing her vision with you. And, as it turns out, there’s a good amount of asparagus!

(Please note that fresh asparagus spears depend on growing conditions cooperating. The class will happen asparagus or no asparagus. Either way, we will learn how to find it by picking out last year’s dried plants–a skill that will serve you well into the future.)

We will probably cook some wild plants up for a taste test, but please bring your lunch. Be prepared to drive on dirt roads. Masks are required at all 2021 events.

  • LOCATION: Simla, CO
  • DATES/TIMES: Saturday, May 1, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  • COST: $100/person
  • BRING: A lunch, sunscreen/sun hat, boots, camera/notepad, foraging bags (plastic or otherwise), several bottles of water, warm & cool layers, raincoat. The grasslands like to insert pointy awns into your socks, so boot gaiters are nice if you have them.
  • IMPORTANT: We will be walking up to 2 miles. (I have other classes that cover less ground if this is prohibitive.)

If you are interested in attending, please fill out and submit the comment form below. I will respond in the order these are received, and send a payment link if spots are available. Spaces are confirmed upon payment.
