Description
What wild foods grow in a mountain forest in summer? In this class, we’ll hike a shady drainage in Colorado’s Front Range Mountains near Bailey, CO learning edible native plants (and hopefully mushrooms) common to mixed-conifer forests, as well as some non-natives. We’ll taste along the trail, forage, and prepare something to taste back at the trailhead. Other activities may include: plant ID by group, how to use a flora, and/or something hands-on from my backpack. No matter what, it will be a full, fun day! - DATE: Wednesday, July 22, 2026
- TIME: 9:00 AM -3:00 PM (6 hours)
- LOCATION: The trailhead is about 20 minutes off US 285 between Pine Junction and Bailey. It should take about 1 hr, 15 minutes from Denver proper. Meetup instructions will be emailed upon registration.
- COST: $130/person
- BRING: LUNCH or snacks, water, camera/notepad, foraging bags (plastic/cloth grocery bag), scissors, gloves (optional), bug spray, plate/mug/silverware
- WEAR: Hiking boots/closed-toe shoes (mandatory), sunscreen, sun hat, sunglasses, warm/cool layers, raincoat

- Carpool: I will set a meetup/carpool location in the hopes you can carpool to the trailhead.
- Conditions: The last part of the drive is on a tight dirt road with a few potholes and rocks. I have always been able to manage it in my passenger car, but you will want to keep your tires on the high sides of things.
- Hiking: This hike does not exceed 2.5 miles round-trip. Please contact me if you have any concerns about your ability to participate.
